This equipment requires a stable, vibration-free surface and ambient temperature below 40°C to prevent hydraulic fluid degradation. The seal-free oil cylinder design reduces leakage points but still imposes a limit of 10-minute continuous pressure holds to maintain pressure stability within ≤1 MPa.
- Pressure Stability Limit: The hydraulic system must not be held at maximum pressure for longer than 10 minutes to avoid exceeding the ≤1 MPa pressure drift specification.
- Overload Protection Activation: The overload protection automatically releases pressure if the applied force exceeds the set limit; verify this function before each use.
- Protective Cover Requirement: The organic glass protective cover must be closed and locked during operation to contain any fragments from potential die or sample failure.
- Hydraulic Oil Maintenance: Inspect the oil level and clarity every 50 operating hours; replace the hydraulic fluid annually to prevent seal wear and pressure instability.
- Electrical Safety Grounding: Ensure the touch screen and control unit are connected to a grounded power outlet to mitigate electrostatic discharge risks.
This procedure guides the operator through setting up, loading, pressing, and unloading a powder sample using the Atomfair PP156 press. Follow all steps in order to maintain pressure accuracy and operator safety.
Required Equipment: Atomfair Powder Tablet Press (PP156)
- Set up the press
Place the press on a level, stable workbench and connect it to a grounded power outlet. - Load the powder sample
Fill the die cavity with the pre-weighed powder and assemble the die set on the worktable. - Close the protective cover
Lower the organic glass protective cover and verify it is fully locked before proceeding. - Set pressing parameters
Use the 5-inch touch screen to enter the target pressure, hold time, and up to 18 program segments if required. - Start the pressing cycle
Press the start button to begin programmed pressure application; monitor pressure displayed in both force and intensity scales. - Release pressure after hold
Allow the automatic pressure relief to engage at cycle end; do not manually retract the piston until pressure reaches zero. - Unload the tablet
Open the protective cover, remove the die set, and extract the formed tablet using a clean spatula.
How does the seal-free hydraulic design of the PP156 compare to conventional sealed systems in terms of oil leakage and maintenance frequency?
The seal-free connection design eliminates traditional seal components, greatly reducing oil leakage points. The chrome-plated Φ70mm oil cylinder maintains pressure stability ≤1MPa/10min, comparable to sealed systems. This design also simplifies maintenance by removing the need for seal replacement, improving long-term reliability.
What is the maximum pellet diameter that can be pressed given the Φ80mm worktable and 96×130mm column spacing?
The maximum pellet diameter is limited by the Φ80mm worktable and column spacing of 96×130mm. Typically, dies up to 75mm diameter can be accommodated, provided the die body fits between the upright columns. The maximum piston stroke of 30mm also restricts the combined height of die and sample.
What safety mechanisms does the PP156 employ to prevent overpressure accidents during unattended operation?
The PP156 includes overload protection and limit automatic pressure relief functions. Combined with the organic glass protective cover, these mechanisms automatically release pressure if limits are exceeded, ensuring operator and equipment safety. The dual-scale display allows real-time monitoring of both pressure and pressure intensity.
The Atomfair Powder Tablet Press (PP156) offers precise 0-12T pressure control with programmable cycles and a seal-free hydraulic design that minimizes oil leakage, making it suitable for laboratory-scale powder densification. However, its 30mm maximum piston stroke and 96×130mm column spacing constrain pellet thickness and die dimensions, which must be considered for specific sample geometries.
Positive
- Programmable pressure control with stability: Supports programmed pressure application, holding, and relief with pressure stability ≤1MPa/10min and display accuracy 0.01T, enabling reproducible forming for scientific experiments.
- Seal-free hydraulic design reduces leakage: The Φ70mm chrome-plated oil cylinder uses a seal-free connection, greatly reducing oil leakage points compared to conventional designs and improving long-term reliability.
Trade-offs
- Limited maximum piston stroke: With only 30mm of maximum piston stroke, the press cannot accommodate thicker powder beds or tall dies, restricting the range of pellet thicknesses that can be produced.
- Constrained column spacing for dies: The upright column spacing of 96×130mm limits the maximum die diameter and shape that can be positioned on the Φ80mm worktable, potentially excluding non-standard or oversized tooling.
