The integrated 3P air-cooled refrigeration unit maintains the grinding chamber between 5–15°C, dependent on ambient temperature differential. Adequate ventilation space around the equipment is required for optimal cooling performance.
- Temperature Control Constraint: The 5–15°C grinding chamber temperature range is maintained by the compressor-based cooling system and is contingent on a stable ambient laboratory environment.
- Ventilation Requirement: Sufficient clearance around the refrigeration unit must be provided to ensure adequate airflow for heat dissipation and consistent cooling operation.
- Jar and Media Compatibility: Grinding jars and balls must be ordered separately and selected for material compatibility to prevent cross-contamination during cryogenic milling.
This procedure covers the initial setup and safe operation of the CPM-60 main unit with integrated cryogenic cooling. Grinding jars and media are not included and must be prepared separately.
Required Equipment: CPM-60 main grinding unit with integrated 3P air-cooled refrigeration, Four 15 L grinding jars (ordered separately, material selected per application), Grinding balls (ordered separately, filling to 40% of jar capacity)
- Position the unit
Place the CPM-60 on a level, stable surface with adequate clearance around the refrigeration unit for ventilation. - Load grinding jars
Fill each 15 L jar with material up to two-thirds of its volume and grinding balls to 40% of jar capacity, then seal the jars securely. - Install jars on the mill
Mount the four loaded jars onto the jar holders, ensuring they are properly seated and locked into position. - Activate the cooling system
Turn on the integrated 3P air-cooled refrigeration unit and allow the grinding chamber to stabilize within the 5–15°C range before starting the mill. - Set rotation speed
Use the brand inverter control to set the jar rotation speed between 0 and 260 r/min, adjusting for the desired grinding intensity. - Start the grinding cycle
Initiate the gear-driven transmission and monitor the temperature display to confirm the chamber remains within the specified cryogenic range throughout operation.
How does the CPM-60's gear-driven transmission with 0–260 rpm speed range affect its ability to achieve ultrafine grinding down to 0.1 μm compared to higher-speed planetary mills?
The gear-drive system delivers high torque for heavy grinding loads, and the brand inverter enables precise stepless speed control across the full 0–260 rpm range, compensating for the lower speed with a larger 490 mm revolution diameter and 15 L jar capacity. The planetary motion combined with optimized rotation-to-revolution ratio (1:1.5) allows the CPM-60 to achieve final particle sizes as fine as 0.1 μm, depending on material properties and process parameters. The trade-off is a lower maximum speed but higher torque and larger batch throughput compared to smaller high-speed mills.
What jar material options are compatible with the CPM-60 to avoid cross-contamination when grinding temperature-sensitive materials like lithium cobalt oxide, catalysts, or phosphors?
The CPM-60 accepts 15 L grinding jars in eight material grades ordered separately: WC-Co, Al₂O₃, Agate, YSZ, stainless steel, PU, ceramic, and nylon. Selection must match the target material to prevent contamination—for example, Agate (natural SiO₂) for zero-metal oxide analysis, Al₂O₃ for alumina-based ceramics, and YSZ for zirconia-based materials. The integrated 5–15°C cooling preserves physicochemical properties of these temperature-sensitive materials during grinding.
What infrastructure and installation conditions are required for the CPM-60's integrated 3P air-cooled refrigeration unit to maintain stable 5–15°C operation?
The CPM-60 requires a three-phase (3P) power supply for both the 7.5 kW gear-drive motor and the compressor-based refrigeration unit. Adequate ventilation space around the 1600×1070×1250 mm unit is essential for optimal heat exchange; ambient temperature stability directly affects the 5–15°C control range. Grinding jars and balls are ordered separately and must be selected based on material compatibility. A stable laboratory environment and access to the user manual for installation and maintenance procedures are necessary for consistent performance.
The CPM-60 cryogenic planetary ball mill integrates a 7.5 kW gear-drive with an air-cooled refrigeration unit to maintain 5-15°C grinding chamber temperature, supporting 60 L total volume from four 15 L jars for ultrafine grinding down to 0.1 μm. Jars and media must be ordered separately.
Positive
- Integrated Cryogenic Temperature Control: Compressor-based air-cooled refrigeration maintains the grinding chamber at 5-15°C, enabling low-temperature ultrafine grinding for temperature-sensitive materials without altering physicochemical properties.
- High Torque Gear Drive with Inverter: Gear-driven transmission with brand inverter stepless speed control provides robust torque for heavy loads and precise speed regulation across the full 0-260 rpm range for optimized grinding parameters.
Trade-offs
- Jars and Media Ordered Separately: Grinding jars (4 × 15 L) and balls must be purchased separately; users must select compatible materials (e.g., WC-Co, Al₂O₃, YSZ, agate) to avoid cross-contamination with the target material.
- Ambient Temperature Dependent Cooling: The 5-15°C range is dependent on ambient temperature differential; the unit requires adequate ventilation space and a stable laboratory environment for consistent cooling performance.
