Porous Metal Foam Introduction

| Porous metal foam is a type of metal material containing a certain number of pores with specific pore size and porosity within the matrix metal. It is a rapidly developing new material in the field of materials science. Its preparation principle involves electroplating target metal onto a three-dimensional network-structured polymer skeleton (commonly known as sponge) such as polyurethane or polyester polyurethane, then burning out the internal polymer skeleton and reducing metal oxides, followed by chemical heat treatment and machining to finally produce foam metal products. Therefore, foam metal features a three-dimensional multi-layer structure, high permeability, adjustable pore size, and combines the dual attributes of functional and structural materials. It offers damping, shock absorption, noise reduction, thermal insulation, flame retardancy, filtration, gas distribution, electromagnetic shielding and other functions. It also possesses certain mechanical strength, along with advantages such as lightweight, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, large specific surface area, high chemical and electrochemical activity, and resistance to aging. It can operate stably under high temperature and harsh working conditions, solving many practical application challenges. |
