ATOMFAIR® Tungsten Carbide Planetary Ball Mill Jar (WC-Co Grinding Jar) is manufactured from premium tungsten carbide cobalt cemented carbide (YG8 standard formulation: WC 92% + Co 8%) via powder metallurgy vacuum high-pressure integrated sintering. With WC-Co YG8 density 14.5-15.0 g/cm³ HRA 88-93 specifications—the highest density among all commercially available grinding jars, 2.5× zirconia, 4× alumina, and nearly 2× stainless steel—this jar delivers unparalleled impact crushing power during planetary high-speed operation. Purpose-built for ultra-hard material nano-scale grinding, it effortlessly pulverizes diamond micropowder, silicon carbide, boron carbide, and cubic boron nitride to nanometer fineness. The vacuum sintered mirror polished non-stick interior features zero porosity, zero pitting, and a non-stick surface for clean material discharge and easy cleaning. The cobalt binder phase provides exceptional toughness (bending strength ≥2800 MPa) that prevents edge chipping and cracking under high ball-to-powder ratios and high rotation speeds—a critical advantage over brittle ceramic jars. Standard configuration includes WC-Co jar body + matching material sealing lid + silicone sealing gasket. Optimal grinding media pairing: same-grade WC-Co cemented carbide grinding balls only (homogeneous material matching prevents jar wear). This jar is exclusively for vertical planetary ball mills—not for roller jar mills. Extreme Wear Resistance with Virtually Zero Jar Material Loss: When paired with same-grade WC-Co balls, jar wall wear is negligible even under continuous long-duration grinding. For high-value material processing, the extended service life delivers the lowest long-term consumable cost despite higher initial investment.
High Hardness + High Toughness—Impact Resistant Without Cracking: The cobalt binder phase buffers high-speed grinding impact. Unlike brittle ceramic jars (corundum, agate) that chip and crack under high ball-to-powder ratios and high rotation speeds, the WC-Co jar maintains structural integrity with bending strength ≥2800 MPa.
Dense Non-Porous Vacuum Sintered Structure with Mirror Interior: One-piece high-pressure vacuum sintering eliminates internal porosity. The mirror-polished, non-stick interior releases only trace W and Co—free from Al, Fe, and Zr contamination—with zero pitting or powder adhesion for clean discharge.

APPLICATION SCOPE: Ultra-hard inorganic powder research and production: diamond micropowder, silicon carbide (SiC), boron carbide (B₄C), cubic boron nitride (cBN), and corundum powder nano-scale grinding. Cemented carbide industry: WC-Co raw powder and cutting tool raw material mechanical alloying. Advanced ceramic powders: high-purity silicon nitride (Si₃N₄), titanium carbide (TiC), and other ultra-high-hardness specialty ceramic precursors. Gemstone and abrasive processing: synthetic gemstones and diamond abrasive ultrafine refinement. Refractory metal alloys: tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), and chromium (Cr) high-hardness alloy powder mixing and refinement. Exclusively for vertical planetary ball mills—both dry ultrafine grinding and wet slurry processing supported.

MANDATORY GRINDING MEDIA PAIRING: Only WC-Co cemented carbide grinding balls may be used. Zirconia, alumina, stainless steel, agate, and all other ball materials with hardness lower than WC-Co will severely scratch the jar inner wall during high-speed planetary grinding, generating massive jar debris contamination of samples. Homogeneous material matching (WC-Co jar + WC-Co balls) is the only acceptable configuration.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Strictly prohibited for lithium battery (NCM/LFP), high-purity electronic ceramics, and trace element detection samples—grinding releases trace W and Co metals that will completely compromise these materials. Hydrofluoric acid (HF) and concentrated strong alkali systems prohibited: HF corrodes the cemented carbide matrix; long-term strong alkali immersion accelerates cobalt phase dissolution with dramatically increased W/Co impurity release. Avoid rapid thermal shock: direct water cooling after high-temperature grinding generates internal stress, causing invisible cracking and accelerated degradation. Severe impact and dropping prohibited: despite superior toughness compared to ceramics, severe impact can still produce hidden cracks leading to later fracture—handle with care during transport and clamping. Replace damaged jars immediately: discard jars showing inner wall scratching, chipping, or edge spalling—tungsten and cobalt debris release increases dramatically at damage sites. Cost advisory: WC-Co jar purchase cost is substantially higher than ceramic and stainless steel jars. These jars are exclusively recommended for ultra-high-hardness, difficult-to-grind materials.
