Description

Soil Grinding and Screening Machine

Product Introduction

This machine is designed for heavy metal analysis in soil, equipped with 4 agate grinding jars. The sealing pressure of the agate grinding jars is adjustable via a graduated scale. The grinding jars rotate reversely around their own axes while revolving around the turntable axis. Samples inside the jars collide and rub against each other at high speed, achieving sample crushing, grinding, mixing and dispersion. It supports dry grinding, wet grinding and vacuum grinding. Two or four grinding jars can work simultaneously at a time.

Working Principle

This machine is used for heavy metal analysis in soil, equipped with 4 agate grinding jars. The sealing pressure of the agate grinding jars is set by a graduated scale. The jars revolve around the turntable axis and rotate reversely around their own axes at the same time. Samples in the jars collide and rub against each other during high-speed movement, so as to crush, grind, mix and disperse samples. It can be used for dry grinding, wet grinding and vacuum grinding. Two or four grinding jars can operate at the same time.

Supporting Products Supply

We also supply various grinding balls: stainless steel balls, zirconia balls, alumina balls, PU balls, cemented carbide balls, tungsten balls, agate balls, hard alloy balls, silicon nitride balls, high wear-resistant steel balls, manganese steel balls, nylon balls, glass balls and other special metal material balls.

We also provide grinding jars of various materials: agate, alumina corundum ceramic, zirconia ceramic, silicon nitride ceramic, silicon carbide ceramic, stainless steel, wear-resistant steel, manganese steel, nylon, polyurethane, hard alloy, crystal glass, etc.

The mill requires a grounded 220V AC electrical supply and a stable, level surface capable of supporting its 150 kg net weight. Proper sealing of the agate jars is critical to contain fine particulates and prevent cross-contamination during operation.

  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the mill is connected to a grounded outlet with a dedicated circuit rated for the 1.5 kW motor load.
  • Mechanical Stability: Place the mill on a vibration-dampening pad and verify that all four feet are in full contact with the floor before operation.
  • Jar Sealing: Adjust the sealing pressure of each agate jar using the graduated scale to prevent leakage of fine particles during high-speed rotation.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Operators must wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and closed-toe footwear when the mill is running.
  • Ventilation: Use the mill in a well-ventilated area or under a fume hood when grinding materials that may generate airborne dust.

This procedure describes the safe installation and operation of the planetary ball mill. Adherence to these steps prevents mechanical hazards and ensures consistent grinding results.

Required Equipment: Agate grinding jars with graduated sealing scale, Jar holder clamping mechanism, Control panel with speed and timer settings, Sample and grinding media

  1. Inspect jars
Inspect each agate jar for cracks, chips, or wear before installing them into the mill.
  2. Load sample
Load the sample and appropriate grinding media into the jar, filling no more than two-thirds of the jar volume.
  3. Seal jar
Seal the jar by tightening the lid and adjusting the graduated scale to the recommended sealing pressure.
  4. Secure jar in holder
Place each jar into the jar holder and tighten the clamping mechanism to ensure it is firmly secured.
  5. Set parameters
Set the desired revolution speed and grinding time using the control panel, not exceeding the maximum rotation speed of 580 r/min.
  6. Verify interlock
Confirm that all safety interlocks are engaged and the lid is closed before starting the mill.
  7. Start and monitor
Start the mill and monitor the operation for any abnormal vibrations, noise, or jar displacement.

How does the jar size of the Atomfair XQM-(8-12)A impact its maximum rotational speed, and what trade-off does this create for grinding efficiency?

The XQM-(8-12)A has a jar holder inner diameter of 162 mm, limiting its jar rotation speed to 0–580 r/min, compared to smaller models like the XQM-0.2 (50 mm diameter, 0–1160 r/min). This trade-off means that while the larger jars accommodate bigger sample volumes, the reduced speed may lengthen grinding times for achieving submicron particle sizes. The machine can still grind down to 0.1 μm as specified, but throughput will be lower per unit time when processing hard materials.

Can the Atomfair XQM-(8-12)A process materials other than soil for trace element analysis without introducing contamination?

Yes, it can process a variety of materials, but feed particle size must be ≤3 mm for non-soil samples. To minimize contamination for specific analytes, the machine accepts grinding jars made of agate, zirconia, stainless steel, and other materials listed in the supporting products. For example, zirconia jars are recommended when analyzing for silicon to avoid silica contamination from agate.

What electrical and installation infrastructure is required to operate the Atomfair XQM-(8-12)A for continuous unattended grinding of soil samples?

The machine requires a 220 V AC single-phase power supply and uses a 0.75 kW three-phase motor with a variable frequency controller. It can run continuously for up to 48 hours under full load, with automatic timing for forward-reverse cycling and auto-stop. The unit weighs 150 kg, so it must be placed on a sturdy, level bench or floor-rated surface to handle the dynamic loads during operation.

The Atomfair XQM-(8-12)A is a large-capacity planetary mill with four 250 ml agate jars, designed for soil heavy metal analysis with feed sizes up to 10 mm and output down to 0.1 μm. It offers dry, wet, and vacuum grinding modes, and includes an electric screener for particle size classification down to 20 microns.

Positive

  • Ultra-fine grinding capability: Discharge particle size can reach as fine as 0.1 μm, enabling submicron-level comminution for soil and other materials.
  • Multi-mode grinding flexibility: Supports dry, wet, and vacuum grinding modes in a single unit, accommodating diverse sample preparation protocols.

Trade-offs

  • Feed particle size constraint: Maximum feed size is 10 mm for soil and 3 mm for other materials; larger particles require pre-crushing before milling.
  • Sieve mesh size limitation: The included electric screener classifies only down to 20 microns (200 mesh), leaving sub-sieve fractions below this threshold unclassified.
