Storage in a dry, clean environment is required to prevent corrosion of the 304 stainless steel mold and contamination of the micro powder samples. The applied pressure must not exceed 2 tons to avoid mechanical failure of the mold, indenter, or press structure.
- Pressure Limitation: Operate the press only within the specified 0–2 ton pressure range to prevent damage to the cemented carbide indenter and mold.
- Mold and Indenter Maintenance: Keep the mold cavity and indenter surface free of debris and residue after each use to maintain forming precision and prevent cross-contamination.
- Environmental Storage: Store the press and mold in a low-humidity environment to avoid oxidation of the stainless steel and degradation of the mechanical components.
- Sample Containment: Use appropriate containment measures when handling micro powders to prevent airborne contamination and ensure operator safety.
This procedure describes the safe operation of the manual tablet press for producing uniform pellets from micro powder samples. Follow each step sequentially to ensure consistent tablet quality and avoid mechanical overload.
Required Equipment: Atomfair MTP-618 Tablet Press, φ7mm mold assembly (304 stainless steel body and cemented carbide indenter), Micro powder sample, Spatula and weighing paper (optional)
- Inspect Equipment
Inspect the mold, indenter, and press surfaces for any damage, debris, or signs of wear before assembly. - Load the Powder
Transfer a precisely weighed micro powder sample into the clean mold cavity, ensuring even distribution without spillage. - Assemble and Position the Mold
Place the filled mold assembly centrally onto the press platen, aligning the indenter with the piston. - Apply Pressure
Turn the press handle slowly and steadily until the desired force is reached, not exceeding 2 tons on the pressure gauge. - Hold and Release
Maintain the applied pressure for 5–10 seconds to allow the powder to compact, then carefully release the pressure. - Extract the Tablet
Remove the mold assembly from the press, disassemble it, and gently push out the formed tablet using the indenter. - Clean the Mold
Clean all mold components immediately with a lint-free cloth and appropriate solvent to remove any residual powder.
What is the maximum force capacity of the Atomfair MTP-618 and how does the φ7mm mold size affect the applied pressure?
The press delivers up to 2 tons of force onto a 7mm diameter mold, concentrating that force into a high-pressure zone ideal for compacting micro powder samples as specified.
Is the MTP-618 suitable for pellet preparation in FTIR spectroscopy?
Yes, it is categorized under Infrared Sample Preparation Accessories and designed for micro powder samples, making it well-suited for preparing small KBr pellets for FTIR micro-analysis.
How does the 2-column structural design of the Atomfair MTP-618 enhance operational stability?
The 2-column design provides a rigid, compact frame (100×220×220mm) that minimizes deflection during pressing, ensuring consistent tablet formation and long-term reliability as described.
The Atomfair MTP-618 is a compact manual tablet press designed for micro powder samples, featuring a φ7mm 304 stainless steel mold and a cemented carbide indenter with hardness HRC > 65°, offering precision tableting for small-dose infrared and micro-chemical analysis at a maximum pressure of 2 tons.
Positive
- Dedicated micro-sample mold geometry: The φ7mm mold is purpose-built for small powder samples, enabling precise tableting for infrared and micro-chemical analysis with minimal material consumption.
- Wear-resistant cemented carbide indenter: The indenter is fabricated from cemented carbide with HRC > 65°, providing excellent wear resistance and consistent forming quality over repeated use.
Trade-offs
- Limited pressure capacity (0-2 tons): The maximum pressure of 2 tons restricts the press to soft or brittle materials; harder samples requiring higher compaction forces cannot be processed.
- Short piston stroke of 5 mm: The 5 mm piston stroke limits the maximum achievable pellet thickness, requiring precise powder filling to avoid over-compression or incomplete tableting.
