III. Application Areas

  • Electrode Materials: The outstanding electrical conductivity allows copper foam to be widely used as a skeletal electrode material for new-type batteries such as nickel-zinc batteries and electric double-layer capacitors. It has already been trialed and adopted in production by several nickel-zinc battery manufacturers, and is also expected to be promoted as a current collector for electric double-layer capacitor electrodes. Moreover, the use of copper foam as an electrode material for electrolytic recovery of copper-containing wastewater holds great promise.
  • Catalysts: In many organic chemical reactions, high-specific-surface-area copper foam is often used as a catalyst in place of punched copper plates. Copper foam has also been successfully applied as a carrier for photocatalytic air purification.
  • Thermal Conduction Materials: With excellent thermal conductivity, copper foam is a superior flame-retardant material. It has been used in several high-end fire-fighting products overseas, especially for flame isolation. Its good thermal conductivity and structural permeability also make it suitable for heat-dissipating components in motors, electrical appliances, etc.
  • Acoustic and Electromagnetic Shielding Materials: Sound waves undergo diffuse reflection on the surface of copper foam, and noise reduction is achieved through expansion and micro-pore sound absorption mechanisms. The electromagnetic shielding performance of copper is close to that of silver, making copper foam an excellent electromagnetic shielding material.
